Where to stay in Stockholm – Nordic Light Hotel

I recently went to Stockholm to visit my old turf. When I lived there in 2020, I stayed in a place that no longer is active, so I needed to find a different accommodation. So let me tell you where to stay in Stockholm if you’re after a great and affordable place. I present you Nordic Light Hotel.

Why Nordic Light Hotel?

There are lots of reasons why Nordic Light Hotel should be your choice.

To start with, it is a stone throw from the final stop of Arlanda Express – the train that takes you from Arlanda Airport into Stockholm centre. You don’t need a taxi, nor a bus, nor any other trains to get from Arlanda Express to the hotel.

This also means that you don’t need to rush and plan lots of time for getting out of the hotel and to the airport.

The next reason is the hotel itself.

It’s a modern hotel but without the pomp. Everything is clean and functional. There is a lobby where you can sit and chat, and area to work if you need to do that.

My room was small – I don’t need much space – but more than enough. A big bed, clean bathroom, all regular amenities in the room. My favourite touch was an umbrella in every room 🙂

Every person in the hotel team is helpful, professional and welcoming.

And we must mention free breakfast buffet

The breakfast is to die for. Not only do you have it for free in Nordic Light Hotel – it’s also a buffet with lots of yummy and healthy options. If you can’t eat dairy or gluten, there are options for you as well.

So you will sleep well and eat well too at this place 🙂

What to explore from Nordic Light Hotel?

The hotel is in a fantastic location. If you’re into walking like I am, you won’t need any transport to see the most picturesque sites.

You can walk to one of the most famous sites in Stockholm – Gamla Stan. The walk from the hotel takes about 20mins – depending how many times you’ll stop to take a photo 🙂

While you’re walking to Gamla Stan, you’ll catch the sight of the Town Hall – also worth visiting. You’ll walk down Vasabron bridge which gives you beautiful views of Langholmen Island.

When you’re at Gamla Stan, you can visit the Nobel Prize Museum, the Royal Palace, walk down the streets with some unique shops, and grab a fika 🙂

If you fancy a longer walk, how about strolling to Djurgarden?

Djurgarden is one of the very many islands of Stockholm, with a beautiful park. While you’re there, you can visit Vasa Museum – the museum with the famous ship that sank a few miles after the start of its voyage, and is reconstructed in the museum.

Or you can walk all the way to ABBA Museum – a must visit in my opinion, whether you’re a fan of ABBA or not!

And frankly, just the walk down Strandvagen will be a delight and an opportunity of marveling at the city. And taking lots of pictures – I always do!

Some final logistics

I booked my stay at Nordic Light Hotel via Expedia (got a teeny bit of a discount because of my member status). But you can naturally book your stay on the hotel’s website.

Wifi is free in all areas, and it is a good wifi.

Be mindful that everything in the minibar is chargeable – including a bottle of water. Bearing in mind that the lush breakfast is free, I think that’s fair.

Check out time is midday – and I loved that.

You can also hold meetings in this hotel. There is a restaurant and a gym as well (not in one room, obviously :)).

And there is an underground parking – make sure you contact the hotel in advance to pre-book it.
