Beautiful Streets that are Worth Travelling for

Have you ever travelled anywhere because you wanted to see just one thing? It may sound crazy to some of you, but I have absolutely done this. Today I wanted to tell you about beautiful streets that are worth travelling for. Have you strolled down any of these?

The Umbrellas Street in Águeda, Portugal

Umbrellas hanging over street in Agueda

I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures of a street with umbrellas hanging above it, but did you know that the idea originated in a small town in Portugal? The town is Águeda. and is about an hour’s train trip from Porto.

Walking under the umbrellas is truly magical.

The umbrellas started with the art festival that takes place between July and September, and it is absolutely worth travelling for.

You can read more about this festival here.

New York City and the High Line

Ok, it’s not strictly a street, but I think High Line deserves to be mentioned here.

It’s on the west side of Manhattan in New York City, and it’s an elevated park walk which used to be a railway. It’s also one of my most favourite places in New York City which surpassed my expectations.

The pathway weaves through a public park, and walking down you see quirky sculptures, paintings, installations… What I loved most about this place – this quasi street – is that it was far from the NYC crowds. NYC is a must visit, and High Line is definitely a street worth travelling for.

Streets of Oia in Santorini, Greece

Santorini is famous for its white buildings with blue roofs and domes.

And looking at the sea of these houses is like nothing in this world.

A walk down the streets in Oia is particularly memorable. Everywhere you look, you see the white buildings. And nothing beats these views than looking at these streets when the sun is going down.

The streets in Oia are definitely worth travelling for. Well, the whole Santorini is worth travelling for!

La Rambla and streets of Gaudi Park, Barcelona, Spain

A trip to Barcelona wouldn’t be complete without a stroll down La Rambla, and a visit to Park Güell.

Both places are vibrant and unique in their own way. Park Guell is a celebration of Barcelona’s most famous architect – Antoni Gaudi. Everything there is unique and one of a kind. The colours, the shapes, the whole concept is something that you will not see anywhere else in the world.

A stroll down La Rambla is an experience on its own. The street is full of shops, stalls, museums, and buildings that are worth lifting your head up. Just be mindful of pick-pockets!

Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark

I went to Copenhagen masses of years ago. In fact, my trip to this city was my first solo travel ever.

I loved everything about Copenhagen, and Nyhavn was one of the most memorable areas of the city.

The quay area of Copenhagen is colourful, teeming with restaurants, cafes and shops. It is definitely a sight worth travelling for, along with the Little Mermaid statue or the Amalienborg Palace that belongs to the royal family.

Streets worth travelling for in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden

Gamla Stan in Stockholm is one of a kind area. It’s a historic part of the Swedish capital, with its unique picturesque buildings, Nobel Prize Museum, and the Royal Palace. Everything is worth visiting, if you ever go to Stockholm.

The streets in Gamla Stan are full of boutiques, unforgettable brown, yellow and red buildings, and cobbled stones. When I lived in Sweden, Gamla Stan was always a place that simply made me smile. And if you are there, you simply have to stray to the most wonderful restaurant in the area – Under Kastanjen.

Have you walked down any of these streets? Which streets are worth travelling for in your opinion?
