How to stay sane in the insane world

Some of us live hectic or stressful lives. Couple it up with what’s going on around in the world, and no wonder you can go insane. So how do stay sane in this insane world?

Those who know me know that I lead quite an intense life. My work is usually of a ‘never-stop’ type, I do lots of other things, and simply never sit still.

So how do I stay sane in this insane world?

Though I bet if you asked my sister she would question my “sanity”! Let me share with you my ways of not going crazy. We are naturally all different and react differently to stress, but I’m hoping my solutions help or inspire you figure out what works for you.

I allow myself to feel overwhelmed or not quite myself

This is actually one of my promises to myself for this year. Following everything that Brenรฉ Brown stands for (have you heard of her?), this year I am paying more attention to what’s going on my head and in me.

And so I am allowing myself to feel all sorts of emotions without feeling guilty about it. However, I set a time-frame for this ‘feeling’ – a day. This helps me to realise what’s going on, find the reason why I’m feeling the way I’m feeling, and work out what to do about it (read on :)).

I allow myself to feel not great instead of squashing these emotions. I used to be angry at being angry – that did not end well, trust me.

I avoid people

Don’t get me wrong – I like being among people. But in order to regain my balance, I know I need to remove myself from not only ‘the crowd’, but also from any human contact.

Also, knowing that I am an empath, I know that I need to avoid specific types of people so that I literally don’t disappear altogether.

Some people I know find it weird, or anti-social. However, this is my way of going back to the mental state I need, to recharge my batteries, and not go insane ๐Ÿ™‚

I often use the time away from people to work out what’s going on with me or around me, and then what to do something about it.

So if I’m not speaking with you, don’t take it personally ๐Ÿ™‚

I go outside

It’s easy to convince yourself to go for a walk when it’s warm and sunny, isn’t it? However, I now know that it is even more important to go outside when the weather is grim and not great.

I’m not saying I have a walk in a blizzard or during a thunderstorm! But taking a brisk walk whenever helps your heart, your circulation, and your mood. And this is why I go outside even if it’s cloudy.

Also, my walks serve another purpose: I use them to think about stuff. Or just to let my thoughts flow however they please. This also helps me with staying sane ๐Ÿ™‚

I dance

And that’s pretty much anywhere: my room, kitchen, the office (and get some weird looks :)). It is my perfect remedy for getting my mojo back, especially when it’s raining like hell.

And trust me, I don’t go for any sophisticated flamenco or samba moves! In fact, maybe it’s good that most of the times no one sees me dance around my room… They would definitely think I am insane ๐Ÿ™‚

I watch a film that cheers me up

Have you got films that always leave you smiling? I do – some of them are quite cheesy, and I honestly don’t care. I put on either “Hitch“, “Keeping the Faith”, “The Holidays”, any of the “Harry Potter” or Marvel films, and the world immediately becomes a better place.

No more insanity! I just get lost in the magical world of film, and emerge boosted up.

Do you watch films to feel better?

Much to some people’s disappointment, I don’t get drunk, binge on chocolate, or do drugs to get my balance back.

We are all different, and it’s no surprise that different things will help us stay sane.

How do YOU stay sane in this insane world? I’d love to hear from you and find out your ways for getting your mojo back.
